The film, 3-D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy, is a Cantonese-language erotic movie set in Ming dynasty China, starring Japanese porn actresses set in a story based on classical Chinese literature. It debuted theatrically in Hong Kong on Thursday and in Taiwan on Friday. Despite being critically panned, the film had a successful Hong Kong debut, even drawing in tourists from mainland China to see it. The film may see South Korean and Japanese releases, and there’s been some buzz about a European and U.S. release as well. If all goes well, this could be a trend setter internationally. There is already talk about an upcoming 3-D remake of the 1979 pornographic film Caligula in Italy as well as a Hustler-produced 3-D adult parody of the 3-D blockbuster Avatar.
