How my breakfast woes sum up our economic woes

I’ve always known granola was very healthy, and often have been told that it can go “to the thighs”. After my first bowl I wanted more and from then on just started filling the bowl up routinely adding a handful of raisins and almonds doused in light plain yogurt.

This healthy joy went on for ages – bringing a smile of satisfaction to my day – until one day I decided to read the small print. I assumed it maybe close to 500 – I mean it’s only cereal, right. HOLY Granola – 1500 calories (big bowl) I’ve been smiling down my throat all this time! Thinking it was okay, I’ve been woofing down far more than I can manage and now I’ve stopped buying that product, I’m fanatically applying the small print and aggressively cutting back staring at my navel.
